Hyundai N Line coming to core range – report

i30 N production volume could increase due to demand, standalone performance halo mooted

Hyundai's N Division – responsible for its performance models and motorsport endeavours – has confirmed a line of sport-themed variants based on existing models, and N-branded options and accessories, according to a new report out of the US.

Speaking with Motor Authority, Thomas Schemera, head of the Korean brand's high performance vehicle and motorsport division, confirmed the N subsidiary will release N Line models and N Option accessories for the wider Hyundai range alongside its dedicated N models like the i30 N and Veloster N.

Like Audi's S-Line and BMW's M Sport packages, Hyundai's N Line variants will feature N Option cosmetic upgrades and running gear, likely in the form of bodykits, larger wheels, bigger brakes and sports suspension upgrades.

We first heard about these upgrades in January, but now it seems Hyundai has decided on an official name for its accessories line.

Meanwhile Schemera also told Motor Authority that customer feedback for the i30 N has been so positive, Hyundai is considering an increase in production output to meet growing demand.

The publication said the performance vehicle boss was unable to share the public's reception to the Veloster N (above) as it isn't on sale yet. Additional full-fat N models are on the cards, too.

Last month, Albert Biermann, head of the Hyundai N Division, confirmed to British outlet Auto Express that his engineers are currently working on a Kona N prototype, using the same running gear as the i30 N – including its 2.0-litre turbo engine and six-speed manual transmission.

Prior to that, a Tucson N has been rumoured since 2015, and we've seen prototypes that suggest the mid-size crossover is also in line for the performance treatment given it's one of Hyundai's top-selling models.

We also published spy photos in 2016 of a prototype based on the Veloster RM16 N concept car – which features a mid-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive – suggesting a standalone performance halo could also be in the works.
