2019 Subaru WRX, WRX STI upgrades announced for the US
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now standard, Australian launch unconfirmed
Subaru of America has detailed the upgraded 2019 WRX and WRX STI range for the USA, bringing new safety kit and infotainment to the sports sedan line-up.
In addition to the limited-edition Series.Gray specials revealed earlier this week, the WRX now comes as standard in North America with Subaru's EyeSight driver-assist system when equipped with the CVT – meaning autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are now included.
Also new for the 2019 model year is a new 6.5-inch 'Starlink' infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the base WRX, while WRX Premium variants get a larger 7.0-inch unit. The WRX Limited, meanwhile, offers the option of a 7.0-inch display with satellite navigation.
For 2019 the WRX STI gets a slight power bump to 310hp (231kW) thanks to a new air intake and high-flow performance exhaust. The six-speed manual transmission also has a revised 3rd gear ratio for "faster acceleration".
Like the WRX, the STI gains the new 7.0-inch Subaru Starlink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which also features in-built navigation on the high-spec Limited variant.
The 2019 Subaru WRX and WRX range are available now in the States, priced from US$27,195 ($35,466) and US$36,595 ($47,725) respectively.
Australia
Subaru's local division was unable to confirm whether the MY19 upgrades announced for the US would be mirrored Down Under.
However, considering the Impreza, XV, Liberty and Outback have all been recently upgraded with the Starlink multimedia system with smartphone mirroring functions, we're guessing local models will get the same treatment soon.
