5 June 2017: Vauxhall VXR8 GTS-R confirmed for the UK

It's been a year now since Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) rolled out its final run of locally-built performance Commodores, and on this day last year General Motors's UK arm, Vauxhall, confirmed it would be taking 15 examples of the supercharged GTS-R sedan to Britain.

Since Vauxhall is now a subsidiary of the PSA Group, it's unlikely the brand will ever offer anything like the 435kW/740Nm GTS-R again – which also happens to be the most powerful car it has ever sold in its 114-year history.

5 June 2014: Mini Hatch 5 Door revealed

The updated Mini 'LCI' range is about to hit our shores, and it was on this day four years ago the company revealed its first five-door hatchback – simply dubbed the Mini 5 Door.

With extra room for passengers and their luggage, the 5 Door was pitched as a rival to everything from the Audi A1 to the Volkswagen Golf.

5 June 2013: Skoda Octavia RS revealed

Half a decade ago saw the reveal of the third-generation Skoda Octavia RS, the quickest series-production model in the nameplate's history – at the time, of course.

Power came from a 162kW 2.0-litre turbo four borrowed from the related Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7, the Octavia RS could hit 100km/h from a standstill in 6.8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 248km/h.

5 June 2012: Mahindra XUV500 confirmed for Australia

Indian manufacturer Mahindra was determined to make a bigger mark on the Australian market following the launch of the Pik Up ute, and confirmed on this day in 2012 that the XU500 SUV would be heading Down Under.

The seven-seat SUV would later launch as a diesel-only, seven-seat model, pitched as a more affordable alternative to established competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Holden Captiva.

More recently, a facelifted version with a torquey turbo petrol engine has arrived, and the entry price has been dropped to $25,990 drive-away – making it the most affordable seven-seat automatic SUV in Australia.

5 June 2008: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X pricing and specs

Ah, the memories. Remember when Mitsubishi made the Lancer Evolution?

Ten years ago today, the company released pricing and specifications for the tenth-generation Evo, which was priced from $59,490 plus on-roads.

Power came from a 2.0-litre turbo four pot making 217kW of power and 366Nm of torque, matched to either a five-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic.
