2018 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 revealed
It's the hottest GT-R around, now featuring air conditioning
Nissan has unveiled the latest GT3-ready version of its GT-R – the GT-R Nismo GT3 – blending revised driving dynamics with creature comforts like air-conditioning.
Although it looks like the previous GT3, launched in 2015, Nissan has left no stone unturned in search of more speed. The engine has been mounted 150mm further back in the chassis than before, along with a revised suspension tune, new cross members and a fresh dry sump for the engine.
The brakes have been uprated, while a redesigned transmission helps extend the all-important service interval. Boring though it sounds, being able to run a car cheaply is one of the most important parts of operating a race team.
It sounds like an obvious addition, but Nissan has also developed an air-conditioning system for the Nismo GT3. It's optional, and is designed to keep drivers alert during long, arduous endurance races. It's been described as an 'exclusively described' system, specific to the race car.
Power comes from a VR38SETT twin-turbo V6 engine making more than 405kW and 637Nm, put to all four wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission. The front brakes are six-piston units, the rears are four-piston grabbers with ventilated steel discs.
All the safety kit, from the roll cage to the fire extinguisher, seats, steering wheel and driver recovery system are FIA approved, meaning the GT3 can compete in, you know, GT3 races against cars like the Bentley Continental GT3, Audi R8 LMS and McLaren 650S GT3.
The order books are open for the Nismo GT3. If you're keen to get into endurance racing, you'll pay ¥60,000,000 ($727,900) before options, spare parts and running costs are taken into account. Not cheap, but no motorsport is.
