2019 Suzuki Jimny spied in factory yard, dash detailed – UPDATE

Check out the colours on Suzuki's compact off-roader

UPDATE (1/6/18):CarAdvice reader has submitted images from a Japanese magazine which give a closer look at what to expect from the new Jimny, see bottom of article for details.

A whole bunch of next-generation Suzuki Jimny SUVs have been spied sitting at the back of the company's factory.

As we've seen with leaked presentation slides, sneaky photos from the factory floor and production prototypes, the next-generation Jimny dumps the current car's more modern design for something that's unashamedly retro.

This latest set of photos, first posted to a Japanese YouTube channel, show off the range of colours to be offered on the Jimny.

These cars seem to be entry-level domestic market models, which probably comply with kei-class rules, as they miss out on the wheel arch flares seen in earlier spy photos.

In January this year, Michael Pachota, Suzuki Automobiles Australia's general manager, told CarAdvice the new Jimny will "hopefully be here by quarter four".

We know the new Jimny will continue to be a true off-roader with a ladder frame, four-wheel drive, high-profile tyres, and low-range gearing.

While the styling of both exterior and interior play heavily on Suzuki's history, the new model should feature more safety and infotainment equipment.

We're not sure which engines the Jimny will be equipped with, but rumours indicate export models could be fitted with the company's 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo three-cylinder engine.

Also news this week is a leaked image of the new Jimny's dashboard (above), which gives a clearer look at what the cabin will look like compared to the grainy images of the company's secret product planning meetings.

In terms of design, like the exterior, it appears the little off-roader will employ an old-meets-new utilitarian approach – combining new technology like a large touchscreen infotainment system with toggle-style switchgear, along with exposed screw head elements.

Thanks to Ash for the tip!

UPDATE: New images surface in Japanese media

Keen-eyed CarAdvice reader, Marcel, found these images in Japan's Best Car magazine, which claim to be the final design of the upcoming Jimny.

The exterior shot shows a very boxy and old-school-styled three-door off-roader – looking very much like the vehicles spotted in the holding yard earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the dash image (above) indicates the 3D rendering is rather accurate, blending retro squared-off design elements with more contemporary Suzuki components – the latter including the steering wheel, driver's instrument display, climate control dials with LCD inner displays, along with the 7.0-inch touchscreen seen on other models in the company's line-up.

We're still yet to see the Jimny be officially revealed, though these latest images give us a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Thanks Marcel for the tip!
