2018 Abarth 595, Fiat 500 infotainment upgraded – UPDATE

Bigger new display brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The Abarth 595 line-up has been upgraded for the 2018 model year, bringing an upgraded infotainment display and smartphone mirroring technology.

UPDATE, 21/9/18: The Fiat 500 has added the 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across the range.

UPDATE, 28/5/18: FCA Australia has indicated the regular Fiat 500 will be getting the upgraded infotainment system as well. See bottom of article for details.

Now measuring 7.0 inches (up from 5.0), the new Uconnect infotainment system is standard across the range, and debuts Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity for the Australian range – however, in-built navigation is no longer available.

Pricing is unchanged, too, with the entry-level 595 starting at $26,990 before on-road costs, while the top-spec 595 Competizione is available from $31,990 plus ORCs.

"The repositioning of the Abarth 595 late last year delivered customer demand that far exceeded our expectations. Clearly the revised product specification and sharpened pricing has resonated with hot hatch buyers," said Fulvio Antonelli, director of Abarth Brand Australia.

“A bonus of this demand is that we have managed to secure additional production support from the factory which is more closely aligned with the increased enquiry, which should improve customer delivery times."

“In another bonus for customers, we are excited to be in a position to further enhance the 595’s infotainment specification with the addition of a larger touchscreen featuring both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,” he added.

According to the company's local arm, sales of the 595 have ballooned by 300 per cent since the Series 4 range launched in September last year.

Going by the latest VFACTs report, the Fiat 500 and Abarth 595 sold a combined 62 units for the month of April, taking the year-to-date (YTD) figure up to 265 units.

While that doesn't seem like huge numbers, the overall 500/595 line-up makes up 10.7 per cent of the micro car market YTD, and was second  on the sales podium last month only to the Kia Picanto – which accounts for a massive 63.2 per cent YTD.

The upgraded 595 range is available to order now.

Fiat 500 updated too

These latest updates may look good to prospective Abarth buyers, though if you're interested in the Fiat 500 you may be wondering if the non-performance range will be getting the new screen as well.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Australia has confirmed the standard Fiat 500 range is now fitted as standard with the new screen.
