The upcoming 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been teased again, this time in a single overhead image revealing some of the new model's exterior details.

Finished in bright blue with contrasting white stripes, we can see the GT500's massive fixed carbon-fibre rear wing and large bonnet vent which nearly stretches the length of the 'hood'. It also looks like the bonnet vents form part of a power bulge.

Previously, we've been shown the hot Mustang's face (below), which features a unique grille and bumper treatment, while also proudly wearing the Shelby cobra badge on its nose.

Ford has already confirmed the Shelby GT500 will be powered by a supercharged V8 with over 700 horsepower (522kW), making it the "most powerful street-legal production Ford ever.

The GT500 will also come equipped with "new innovative track technologies [and] performance hardware", though we're not exactly sure what that is at this stage.

However, it's clear that the new halo model will be more than just a drag-strip specialist with no cornering ability, Ford is clearly taking aim at racetrack specials like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Ford says the Mustang Shelby GT500 is one of 12 new models under the Ford Performance banner to be launched by 2020.

Australia

The Shelby GT500 is scheduled to go on sale in the North American market sometime next year, though local product communications boss, Damion Smy, told CarAdvice recently that there are no plans for the new model at this stage.

"The recently announced Mustang Shelby GT500 is a US-market model. We have no announcements to make regarding this model for Australia," he said.
