Mercedes-Benz E450 announced for the USA

New twin-turbo V6 uncertain for Australia, at least for now

Mercedes-Benz's North American arm has announced details of the updated 2019 E-Class line-up, including the addition of a new V6 model to sit below the hybrid-boosted AMG E53.

Set to go on sale in the American autumn, the new E450 and E450 4Matic variants will replace the outgoing E400 versions of the large sedan, wagon, coupe and cabriolet.

Power comes from a more powerful version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 in the E400, now making 270kW of power and 500Nm of torque – just 25kW and 20Nm down on the pre-update AMG E43.

Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz USA neglects to quote performance figures, though we reckon the new flagship variant of the core E-Class range will sprint from 0-100km/h in around 5.0 seconds.

For the 2019 model year, American versions of the E-Class pick up the upgraded driver assistance systems from the larger S-Class – as per the updated range in Europe – while also getting new colour and trim options in addition to new steering wheels.

Australia

Mercedes-Benz's local arm is still unable to confirm details of the 2019 E-Class range for our market, however Jerry Stamoulis, manager for public relations and product communications, told CarAdvice details should be available in the coming weeks.

Stay tuned for all the latest updates. Note – European model shown
