2019 Audi A4 facelift spied

Subtle changes for mainstream model planned

The Audi A4 facelift has been spied undergoing testing on public roads in Germany.

With the fourth-generation A4 having made its debut in the middle of 2015, it's due a mid-life update soon.

Up front the bumper has been resculpted to incorporate a more prominent set of fake air intakes. The grille also looks as though it has been very subtly reshaped.

The lower section of the rear bumper has also been redesigned, and is surprisingly unadorned by camouflage tape. This part of the rear bumper now features a faux diffuser element, and trapezoidal surrounds for the exhaust tips.

We'd be surprised if later prototypes and subsequent production version aren't equipped with updated graphics for the headlamps and tail-lights.

Staples of the mid-life facelift trade, such as cabin trim fiddles, new paint options, and new alloy wheel designs, are likely to make an appearance, as are updates for the infotainment and safety systems.

To the end of April 2018, 441 Audi A4 models have been sold in Australia, putting it well behind the segment leaders: Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2091), CLA (1147), and BMW 3 Series (1013).

Indeed, Audi's mainstream sedan and wagon offering is only just ahead of the sedan-only Lexus IS (412), and has recorded a 44.8 per cent year-to-date drop.
