2019 Audi S8 spotted undisguised getting sideways(ish)

Big sedan shows what it's got on the Nurburgring

The upcoming Audi S8 super-sedan has been snapped getting a little bit sideways around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

This time it's not wearing any camouflage, with a more aggressive front bumper and quad pipes on full display for the world. There's no word on what will power it, but there's talk of either the 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 or 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 offered in the Audi RS4/RS5 and Porsche Panamera respectively.

The former makes 331kW of power and 600Nm of torque, while the latter pumps out 404kW and 700Nm.

Given the company has downsized its RS4/RS5 and S4/S5 powertrains, the big V8 seems less likely than it might have in the past, but we're still keeping our fingers crossed. Alternatively, Audi might turn down the hybrid route for its new flagship sedan.

Regardless of what's under the bonnet, the S8 will be well kitted out with six-piston brake calipers and huge carbon-ceramic discs to slow things down.

Expect to see the standard Audi A8 interior tarted up with the usual array of sporty touches, likely to include but certainly not limited to bucket seats with quilted stitching, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and, if you're willing to pay, carbon-fibre trim on the dashboard.

It should also offer the latest in semi-autonomous driving aids from the A8 which, in the right conditions, can make the car Level 3 autonomous.

Stay tuned for all the latest on the S8 in the lead up to its launch.
