2018 Audi RS4 Avant pricing and specs

Wild wagon to start at $152,900

Audi Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the RS4 Avant, set to touch down from $152,500 before on-road costs.

That's not cheap, but the all-wheel drive super wagon comes loaded with gear. To start with, it's powered by a 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 engine making 331kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

That's 170Nm more than the outgoing naturally-aspirated V8, helping the car hit 100km/h in a claimed 4.1 seconds.

Some will complain about the death of the characterful V8 engine, but there's no arguing about the numbers: the new car is 0.6 seconds faster to 100km/h, has tons more torque and drinks a claimed 8.9L/100km on the combined cycle, 17 per cent better than before.

Power is put to the road through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, hooked up to a rear-biased (60 per cent rear/40 per cent front) quattro all-wheel drive system. You didn't expect anything else, right?

You'll be able to tell the RS4 from regular A4 wagons by its aggressively pumped wheel arches, massive oval exhaust pipes, blacked-out grille and 20-inch alloy wheels. There are three different wheel options, along with three different exterior trim choices: gloss black, carbon black or matte aluminium.

Adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic glass sunroof, privacy glass and red-painted brake calipers are all included as standard. The RS Sports Exhaust and sport rear differential are both standard fit as well, which isn't necessarily the case overseas.

Lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, Audi pre-sense, autonomous emergency braking and parking sensors with a 360-degree camera are also fitted as standard.

Inside, the Audi Virtual Cockpit, DAB+ radio and a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system are included inside, where the driver and passenger sit on leather-trimmed sports seats with quilted contrast stitching. The digital instruments are home to RS-specific displays, and there are plenty of RS badges on the door sills, seats and steering wheel, lest you forget what you're driving.

The RS4 is available on sale in Australia right now, priced from $152,900 before on-road costs.
