Porsche 911 Speedster snapped again

Or is it something else?

A peculiar Porsche has been snapped testing in the European alps, blending 911 GT3 running gear with a convertible soft top.

What could it be? There are a couple of options. First, and most logical, is that the car is a mule for the 911 Speedster that, reportedly, is going to be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this year.

Previous mules for that car have worn GT3 wheels and brakes, so it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to assume the GT3-badged car pictured here is another tester.

The incoming Speedster will likely be powered by a version of the 4.0-litre flat six powering the GT3, which means outputs of 373kW or higher are to be expected. There's no word on which transmission will be offered but, given its focus as a pure, pared-back convertible, we wouldn't be surprised if the car is manual only.

Just 356 examples of the last 911 Speedster were built, so expect the latest iteration to be equally hard to come by.

The other possibility? Porsche is preparing a 911 GT3 Touring convertible. That seems less likely, given the GT3 is designed to be a pure race special.

For now, time will only tell. Stay tuned for all the latest in the lead up to the Speedster's launch.
