2018 Renault Megane RS pricing leaked

It'll kick off from $44,990 before on-roads

Pricing for the hotly-anticipated Renault Megane RS will start at $44,990 before on-roads when the car touches down in the third quarter of 2018, according to a dealer bulletin obtained by CarAdvice.

The bulletin says Australian buyers will initially be offered the RS280 with six-speed manual ($44,990 before on-roads) or six-speed dual-clutch automatic ($47,990 before on-roads) options, with 205kW of power and 390Nm of torque from a turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine.

Keen-eyed readers will note, given the Golf GTI won't be offered with a manual from October onwards, the Megane RS will be the only hot-hatch in its price brand with a choice of manual or automatic transmission when it arrives.

In manual guise, the car uses a claimed 7.1L/100km on the combined cycle, while the dual-clutch uses a reported 6.7L/100km.

As we've previously reported, manual RS280 buyers will be offered a $1490 Cup Pack with bi-material aluminium/cast-iron brakes, a mechanical limited-slip differential and the lower, stiffer Cup suspension.

Renault hadn't initially planned to offer the Cup as a standalone model or option pack in Australia, but strong media, customer and dealer feedback pushed the company to add it to the options list.

Pricing for the hotter Trophy model, which gets 224kW from the same 1.8-litre engine, hasn't been revealed, as the model won't be offered from launch.

Along with the Cup Pack, options include metallic paint ($600) or Renault Sport signature paint ($800) – the Orange Tonic colour pictured above, or Liquid Yellow – and the usual luxury options like a Bose sound system ($500), a panoramic sunroof ($1990) and Alcantara interior trim ($1490).

Standard equipment will include keyless entry and start, parking sensors all around, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring and semi-autonomous safety features like auto-emergency braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure warning and auto high-beam and wipers.

The interior will be well kitted-out, with dual-zone climate control, smartphone mirroring on the vertically-oriented 8.7-inch R-Link touchscreen, a 7.0-inch driver display and auto windows all around.

Along with the two hero colours, the car will be offered in solid white, or black, grey, red and white metallic paint.
