22 May 2016: Uber reveals autonomous Ford Mondeo prototype

It's now been two years since ride-sharing giant, Uber, revealed one of its first driverless development vehicles.

Based on the US-market Ford Fusion hybrid – known here as the Mondeo – the Uber prototype was tasked with testing its self-driving capabilities and collecting map data.

Today, we've seen the company run into a couple of hiccups with its driverless vehicle testing – notably a fatal collision with a pedestrian while the vehicle was in autonomous mode.



22 May 2013: Holden VF Commodore scores five-star ANCAP safety rating

It may no longer be on the market, and local manufacturing a distant memory, but this day five years ago saw the final Australian-built Holden Commodore nab a five-star safety rating from ANCAP.

With a score of 35.06 points out of 37, the Commodore managed full marks in all tests bar the frontal offset crash test – where it scored 14.06 out of 16.

The five-star rating applied to all versions of the VF Commodore sedan, Sportwagon and ute, along with the long-wheelbase WN Caprice.



21 May 2010: GM reveals one-off Corvette Z06 for 50th anniversary at Le Mans

General Motors (GM) decided to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Corvette's Le Mans debut with a special one-off example of the 'C6' Corvette Z06 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans at Laguna Seca.

It was more a sticker package than anything else, but the blue-on-white livery was certainly eye-catching, and was a send-off to the then Corvette racing team competing at the 2010 event.
