Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante spied

A development prototype believed to be the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante has been spied this week, giving us a first look at the upcoming convertible flagship for the British marque.

We've already seen one teaser for the DBS Superleggera, announced a month ago ahead of a reveal sometime in June, and we can expect this new model to be an all-out version of the current DB11 – much like how the previous DBS was a more powerful version of the DB9.

Power will likely come from an uprated version of the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 offered in the DB11, which currently makes 470kW and 700Nm in its most powerful 'AMR' form.

With that in mind, we expect the DBS Superleggera to one-up the AMR variant in terms of power, pushing those outputs closer to 500kW and 750Nm respectively – though we'll have to wait and see.

Both coupe and Volante versions should get a more aggressive bodykit and aero package – as previewed by the chunkier proportions of this development vehicle – along with bigger wheels and tyres, along with uprated brakes.

Keen-eyed viewers may also notice the rear diffuser has an extra exhaust pipe sticking out awkwardly alongside the each of the ones borrowed from the standard DB11 – hinting at a freer-flowing, quad-tipped sports exhaust that should contribute to more power and more noise.

Further details will be available when the DBS Superleggera coupe is revealed in June, with the drop-top Volante likely to follow six to eight months later.
