2018 Seat Tarraco teased

Shadowy orange sheet conceals new seven-seater

Seat has teased its three-row Tarraco crossover, essentially a Spanish take on the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace and Skoda Kodiaq, ahead of a full reveal later in the year.

A spate of leaks mean we already have a good idea of how the seven-seat, er, Seat will look, but this is one of the first official looks at the car. Shame it's under an orange sheet, right?

The crossover will join the five-seat Ateca and Arona in the Seat range, and shares plenty of its styling cues with those cars. We know the new SUV will have angular daytime-running lights and headlights, along with an LED light bar running the width of the rear end.

Previous leaks have revealed the Tarraco will get a large infotainment screen inside, along with all the trimmings you'd expect of a semi-premium SUV. That means you'll get dual-zone climate control and leather seats, along with the potential for a digital driver's display.

Given it's underpinned by the Volkswagen Group MQB platform, expect to see a range of 1.4- and 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines offered, along with manual or dual-clutch transmissions.

As for the name? It was actually chosen in a public poll, and references the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula. It won more than 35 per cent of the public vote, beating Avila, Aranda and Alboran for the crown.

The wider Seat range is named after Spanish or Iberian towns, including Ibiza, Leon, Ateca and Arona.

The car will be launched before year-end – initial speculation suggested the Geneva motor show, but we'd bank on a reveal ahead of the Paris motor show given the former has now passed.
