2018 Honda HR-V coming in Q3

Driveability and safety to be improved with upcoming facelift

Honda has confirmed the updated HR-V range should arrive in Australia sometime during the third quarter of 2018.

While specific details for locally-bound examples are still to be confirmed, Honda Australia says the revised HR-V will bring "improved driveability, improved safety and improved style".

Revealed for the Japanese market in February, the facelifted crossover – known in its home region as the Vezel – sports a refreshed look, new alloy wheel designs, revised seats and interior trim elements, along with the standard fitment of the Honda Sensing driver-assistance suite.

Going by the local division's comments, the updated version in Australia could also get the Honda Sensing pack as standard, meaning technologies like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist will be standard issue from the base model up.

If that's the case, the HR-V will join only the Toyota C-HR in the small SUV segment offering those features across the range, and buck the company's current trend of reserving high-end safety technologies for top-of-the-range variants.

Meanwhile, we're unsure what "improved driveability" means at this stage – especially considering the domestic market saw no powertrain changes – though there could be revisions to the HR-V's continuously-variable transmission (CVT) in the pipeline.
