2018 Volkswagen Polo recalled – UPDATE

13,000 units affected by rear seatbelt fault

UPDATE (19/6/18): Volkswagen Australia has expanded this recall, and confirmed with CarAdvice that previous-generation models are affected, not the current Polo as previously reported. See article for details

Volkswagen has recalled around 13,000 examples of the previous-generation 2018 model-year Polo, over concerns about the left-rear seatbelt releasing under certain conditions.

According to the company, the left-rear seatbelt lock could be accidentally released when there are passengers in the central and left-rear seats.

Volkswagen says the car's front- and rear-seatbelt alerts will warn drivers if the seatbelt does come undone, but asks customers not to use the central rear seat.

The company has confirmed that approximately 13,000 Polos are affected by this recall – an updated VIN list can be viewed here.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted when more information is available. Recalled units will be fitted with redesigned belt-lock fixture.
