2019 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet spied

Drop-top flagship spied for the first time

The next-generation Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet has been spied for the first time, giving us a first look at the upcoming convertible flagship sports car.

Spotted in and around the Nurburgring race circuit, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet looks very much like the coupe prototype we've seen in recent months – with the obvious exception of the folding fabric roof you see here.

Just like its hard-topped twin, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet gets a wider body, large intakes, and a big rear spoiler to distinguish itself from more 'pedestrian' 911 models, which all hint at the powerful twin-turbo flat six engine.

Speculation from overseas suggests the new 911 Turbo will make around 600 horsepower (447kW) from its updated six-cylinder twin-turbo boxer engine, which is 20hp (15kW) up on the outgoing 911 Turbo S.

That also leaves room for an even wilder new-gen Turbo S at the pinnacle of the line-up, with a power output likely exceeding 460kW – a lot by anyone's standards.

Such massive grunt could see the 911 Turbo accelerate from 0-100km/h in under 3.0 seconds – down from the current model's three-seconds-flat – which is right up there with the supercar elite.

A seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic will likely be the sole transmission available, with all that grunt sent to the ground via all four wheels.
