2019 Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster revealed

New drop-top sports car due Down Under in 2019

The Mercedes-AMG GT family has a new member in the form of the GT S Roadster, bringing the total number of drop-top variants to three.

Sitting between the lower-spec GT and higher-spec GT C, the GT S serves as a new mid-range offering, with performance and specifications echoing its position in the GT Roadster family.

As with other models, power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, in this case making 384kW of power and 670Nm of torque – as per the equivalent GT S coupe – with maximum torque available between 1900 and 5000rpm.

The GT S Roadster sprints from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 308km/h, making it 0.2 seconds quicker to triple figures than the GT Roadster, but 0.1 seconds slower than the GT C. Additionally, the GT S Roadster's top whack is 6km/h higher than the base GT, and 8km/h down on the GT C.

Standard equipment for global models include AMG Ride Control with adaptive damping as standard, AMG Dynamic Select driving modes, an electronically-controlled locking rear differential, 390mm front and 360mm rear composite brakes with six-piston front and single-piston rear calipers, LED headlights, along with 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels.

Inside, the GT S features sports seats trimmed in Artico faux leather and Dinamica microfibre as standard, with nappa leather optionally available, along with silver chrome interior highlights and Airscarf neck-level heating.

Mercedes-AMG has opened the order books in Europe for the new GT S Roadster, with a market launch scheduled for July 2018.
