Borgward BX6 SUV sedan unveiled, electric BXi7 detailed

Borgward, a made-in-China, Foton-backed German brand, has unveiled the BX6 "coupe SUV", and detailed its first full electric model, the Borgward BXi7.

Pitched as a "GT SUV", the Borgward BX6 looks a lot like the unholy fusion of a crossover and sedan. Among the standard features are "eagle wing-shaped LED tail-lights", 19-inch alloy wheels, and "eagle eye-shaped headlights".

The BX6 is powered by a direct-injection 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 165kW of power and 300Nm of torque. A fast-acting (well, supposedly fast-acting) full-time all-wheel drive system, and a six-speed automatic transmission are fitted as standard.

Borgward says the BX6 has a fuel economy rating of 7.1L/100km.

The company says the BX6 will be launched in the Middle East and South America by the end of 2018, and will head to south-east Asia during 2019.

Based on the conventionally-powered BX7 crossover, the BXi7 is the brand's first pure electric vehicle, and has two independent electric motors capable of generating up to 390Nm of torque, although there's no word yet on power output.

Borgward claims the BXi7 is capable of going from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds, and hitting a top speed of 195km/h. The electric crossover is said to have a range of 375km, and when connected to a fast charging unit the batteries can be topped up to 80 per cent within 45 minutes.
