Fiat 500: Two million ‘modern’ micro hatches sold

Lots and lots of little Italian hatchbacks

Fiat has celebrated building the two millionth 'new 500' since launching its reborn light hatch in 2007. More than six million 500s have been shifted since the legendary original was launched in 1957, for reference.

According to the company, 80 per cent of 500 sales come from outside Italy, making it the most popular Fiat globally.

More than 10 years in production seems like a long time, but Fiat has worked hard to keep the 500 fresh. Along with a major facelift, the car has been reworked into more than 30 special editions, commemorating everything from yachts to Gucci.

In keeping with this theme, the two millionth car off the line in Poland is a 500C Collezione, finished in a two-tone grey-and-white livery. It'll be sold in Italy, naturally.
