Talking autonomy with the National Transport Commission – interview

Marcus Burke sits down with Scott Collie and Mike Stevens

Autonomous driving is a topic that, without fail, gets motoring enthusiasts talking. Car manufacturers are talking a big game at the moment, with Audi and BMW planning fully self-driving vehicles for 2021, and testing continuing apace both overseas and on home soil.

A lot of factors need to be addressed before we see human-less pods running around on the public roads. Locally, one of the main bodies responsible for bringing about our autonomous future is the National Transport Commission (NTC).

Last week, the NTC released a video called Would You Travel in an Automated Vehicle? and outlined some of the challenges it's facing as the technology becomes more prevalent.

Intrigued, we got in touch with Marcus Burke, project director for compliance and technology at the National Transport Commission, and had a chat about the rollout of self-driving technology in Australia, and what the NTC is working on at the moment.

The audio is part of this week's CarAdvice podcast, but we've embedded the full interview audio below.
