2018 BMW M5 takes on the Nurburgring – video
Super sedan storms around the North Loop
The 2018 BMW M5 is a serious beast, with 441kW of power and 750Nm of torque from its 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. We know it's quick in a straight line, but how does it shape up around the Green Hell?
German magazine Sport Auto decided to find out, putting a blue F90 M5 through its paces around the fearsome Nurburgring Nordschleife.
With driver Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel, the super-sedan clocked a 7:38.92 lap, making it marginally slower than the Porsche Panamera and marginally quicker than the Mercedes-AMG E63 S wagon.
Given it's carrying a chunk of extra metal behind the rear axle, it would be interesting to see how the E63 S sedan compared.
The M5 will hit 100km/h in a claimed 3.4 seconds, on the way to an electronically-limited top speed of 305km/h when optioned with the M Driver's Package. If that's not enough, there's now a hotter, faster Competition Package.
Enough talk, though. Check out the video above, and let us know how you think the Competition Package will fare.
