Lagonda confirms electric SUV for 2021

Design to be influenced by Vision Concept

Lagonda, high-end luxury arm of British sports car marque Aston Martin, has announced its plans to launch an all-electric SUV in 2021.

Set to be the "first in a range of state of the art, emission-free luxury vehicles", the new Lagonda model will draw heavily from the Vision Concept shown at this year's Geneva motor show.

The company says the new SUV will be "built around near-future technologies, such as its advanced battery electric drivetrain, making the Lagonda SUV the first of its kind: an ultra-stylish, supremely luxurious, fully electric emission-free vehicle".

"In reviving one of the most iconic names in motoring we have created a unique opportunity. One that allows us to cast aside an inherited 20th century approach and instead design cars around 21st century demands and desires," said Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin.

"The Lagonda SUV is the first of its kind: a spacious, high-performance 4x4 that successfully reconciles a love of technology, luxury and style."

We're not sure what Audi and Tesla have to say about Aston Martin's claim that the Lagonda will be the "first emission-free battery electric SUV", considering the Model X has been around for some time now and the e-tron is due to launch in Europe this year.

However, our guess is that Lagonda is trying to separate the 'luxury' marques like itself, Bentley and Rolls-Royce from 'premium' brands like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
