2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Environmentally Aware

Although outgoing current Prime Minister John Howard has not ratified the Kyoto treaty, Japan has, meaning that all cars manufactured in Japan must adhere to the requirements of the 2005 Kyoto Protocol.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Environmentally Aware

The new manufacturing process focuses on four areas of improvement - Environmental Management, Prevention of Global Warming, Prevention of Environmental Pollution and Recycling and Resource Conservation.

It seems that manufacturers have actually realised that being green it is no longer just a marketing bonus, the future is at stake and like many in the field, Mitsubishi has actually grown a green heart.

Green features of the new Lancer include the all-new, lighter engine which reduces fuel consumption over the previous model, as well as the company's use of discarded plastic materials to build new bumpers, instrument panels and door trims.

Radiator grilles re-use remnant ABS materials, sound absorbing material in the dash panel is produced from cloth and linen bags discarded from other industries, plus Mitsubishi has also adopted the use of Lead free materials.

Lead free items include power steering hoses, intake valves, crank bearings, connecting rods, corrosion coatings and ceramic print on window glass.

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) from plastic bottles are used in the manufacture of the dip stick (oil level gauge). Radiator cores, battery cable terminals and wheels weights have been changed to aluminium, steel and iron respectively.

The new Lancer might be partially made of recycled garbage, but the car promises to be an award winning model for Mitsubishi.
