Renault Australia cuts warranty for RS models
Coverage period cut from five years to three
Renault Australia has dialled back the ownership program for buyers of its high-performance 'RS' models, with all vehicles purchased from 1 May 2018 now covered for three years, instead of the previous five.
The move means Renault Sport (RS) models are no longer covered by the same warranty as their regular counterparts, which continue with the same five-year, unlimited-kilometre program as before.
Vehicles affected include the current Clio RS and Megane RS models, and will include the new-generation Megane RS when it arrives later this year.
The Megane GT, not being a full-bottle Renault Sport model, is still covered by a five-year warranty.
Speaking with CarAdvice, Emily Fadeyev, corporate communications manager for Renault Australia, confirmed the changes and said "the change has been a directive from head office and aligns us with the global Renault Sport warranty policy".
Renault's five-year warranty for its RS models was first implemented in 2014, giving the Clio RS, Clio GT, Megane RS and Megane GT220 the same cover as the company's wider passenger car range.
The French brand's commercial range is also covered by a three-year warranty, however, with a 200,000km limit on mileage.
By comparison, performance vehicles that rival Renault Sport models like the Hyundai i30 N and Skoda Octavia RS both offer five-year warranties, with the Hyundai extending its cover to non-competition track events.
