Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1: Hottest AMG 4-Door Coupe unveiled

With a whopping 900Nm of torque, no less

Mercedes-AMG loves a launch special, so this debut shouldn't come as a surprise. The folks in Affalterbach have announced the AMG 4-Door Coupe GT 63 S Edition 1 – a mouthful, we realise – with a raft of unique styling touches, a revised interior and a 470kW V8 engine.

Offered exclusively on the range-topping GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe, the Edition 1 package will only be available for 12 months.

Under that long, grey bonnet is the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as the 'regular' GT 63 S, making 470kW of power and 900Nm of torque for a 3.2-second sprint to 100km/h. Top speed is a suitably bahn-storming 315km/h. That's impressive in essentially anything, let alone a four-door coupe weighing upwards of 2100kg.

On the outside, you'll be able to tell the Edition 1 from more mundane takes on the AMG 4-Door by its graphite grey or diamond white paint, along with the matte grey striping. There's also an aerodynamics package, which brings a larger front splitter and flics in the front apron, a tweaked diffuser and a fixed rear spoiler.

The package is rounded out with 21-inch forged alloy wheels, finished in a high-sheen matte black. Gold-painted brake calipers lurk behind as another reminder of the car's terrifying performance potential.

There are plenty of changes inside, too, where the ultra-luxe AMG 4-Door cabin has been tarted up with a smattering of colourful additions. The standard AMG Performance seats are trimmed in grey and black leather, offset by yellow contrast stitching, while the steering wheel has a unique badge and, you guessed it, yellow stitching along with a yellow 12 o'clock marker.

Along with the stitching, the seat belts are finished in yellow. The dashboard is finished in grey and yellow, while matte-carbon-fibre trim is standard on the doors and dash. Finally, there are model-specific floor mats and door sills on board, just in case you forget what you're driving.

There will be a few options, too: the AMG Night Package, AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre Package, carbon-ceramic brakes and the 'high-class rear seat' package will all be available to buyers.

Australia

The GT 63 S 4MATIC+ Edition 1 will be offered in Australia. The AMG GT 4-Door Coupe will be touching down locally during the second quarter of 2019, so expect to see pricing and specs announced closer to launch.
