2019 Audi RS Q8 spied

New Urus twin disguised as an SQ8

A development prototype believed to be the Audi RS Q8 has been spied this week, giving us a first look at the flagship version of the company's upcoming SUV coupe.

While the quad tailpipes out the back would indicate an 'S' model not an 'RS', the design of the front intakes and massive brakes with six-piston calipers up front hint at a Rennsport variant, and photographers noted a "deeper sound"– Audi tried a similar trick with an RS Q3 prototype spotted recently.

The RS Q8 is expected to have a lot in common with the recently-launched Lamborghini Urus, meaning it should utilise a high-output 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 – which in Urus guise makes 478kW of power and 850Nm of torque – along with torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, and offer rear-wheel steering.

With all that grunt, the RS Q8 should be capable of hitting triple figures in well under 4.0 seconds, and be capable of a top speed approaching 300km/h – though you'd likely need to tick a couple of option boxes to reach the latter.

There's plenty of swirly black-and-white camouflage concealing the finer design details, though expect the usual RS trimmings including a subtle body kit, massive wheels, and large oval tailpipes on the production models.
