2019 Range Rover Velar updates announced

New engines and better tech, though still unconfirmed for Australia

The Range Rover Velar has received some minor upgrades for the 2019 model year, bringing new engine options and driver assistance technologies to the luxury SUV range.

Following similar changes to the closely-related 2019 Jaguar F-Pace line-up, the Velar range sees the addition of two new V6 engine options – one petrol one diesel – while petrol models also get a larger fuel tank, now 82L instead of 63L.

New to the petrol line-up is the P340, which is a lower-output version of the company's 3.0-litre supercharged V6. Outputs are rated at 250kW (340PS) and 450Nm, while drive is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

Meanwhile, the new D275 diesel is a low-output version of the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel, putting out 202kW of power (275PS) and 625Nm of torque – the latter available from 1500-2500rpm. As per the wider range, the new diesel is mated to an eight-speed auto.

In terms of new technology, global versions of the Velar now get a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and driver condition monitoring as standard equipment.

Additionally, adaptive cruise control with steering assist is now offered as an option, which operates between 0-180km/h in conjunction with lane-centring technology to provide a new semi-autonomous driving feature.

The high-speed autonomous emergency braking function now "enables enhanced forward collision detection", functioning between 10-160km/h.

New options include Adaptive Dynamics – essentially JLR's fancy term for adjustable damping and suspension – which monitors wheel movement "500 times per second" and body movements "100 times per second" while varying damping force at all four corners to optimise ride comfort and handling.

There's also the option of air suspension on all V6 variants, along with the 240P and 300P four-cylinder petrols. Finally, all petrol Velar models are now fitted with particulate filter to reduce emissions.
