2018 Bentley Continental GT priced from $422,600

W12-engined coupe arriving Down Under in Q3 2018

Australian pricing for the new 2018 Bentley Continental GT has been announced this week, with the British luxury coupe to kick off at $422,600 before on-road costs ahead of first deliveries in the third quarter.

That figure puts the big grand tourer in the same ballpark as numerous high-end luxury sports coupes, including the Aston Martin DB11 V12 (from $395,000), and the Mercedes-AMG S63 coupe (from $414,427).

If you missed our coverage of the reveal, here's all you need to know about the new Continental GT.

Despite the obvious design changes, the third-generation Continental has received extensive updates inside and out.

Power comes from a reworked 6.0-litre twin-turbo W12, developing a healthy 466kW of power and 900Nm of torque – up 32kW and 180Nm over the previous model.

The power bump makes for some impressive performance improvements, too, with 0-100km/h taking just 3.7 seconds (down 0.8 seconds), though top speed is rated at 333km/h (207mph) – the latter 3km/h down on its predecessor.

Helping the new Continental hit those figures is an all-new body that shaves 80 kilograms from the previous model, along with a new quick-shifting eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system.

There's a raft of technology updates as well, including a new digital instrument cluster, a rotating 12.3-inch central infotainment display with Apple CarPlay compatibility, a 48V anti-roll system for improved handling and ride comfort, and new LED Matrix headlights.

Additionally, the new Continental is available with numerous new-age driver-assistance technologies, which are offered in the form of two option packages.

The City Specification pack adds city-speed autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic sign recognition and a 360-degree camera, as well as a gesture-operated boot.

Meanwhile, the Touring Specification brings adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist (stop&go), active lane assist, a head-up display, an infrared night vision camera system, along with pre-sense braking.

As with all Bentleys, buyers can opt for a range of customisation and personalisation options. There's 17 'standard' paint options, which opens to 70 hues as part of the extended range, along with 15 carpet options, eight different cabin veneers (including a further four dual-veneer options), and 15 different upholstery choices.

There's also a Mulliner Driving Specification package, adding 22-inch lightweight forged alloys, unique 'diamond in diamond' leather quilting, embroidered Bentley emblems, additional veneer options, a jewelled-finish fuel filler cap, sports pedals, and an indented leather headliner. Buyers can also opt for personalised stitching in the front and rear of the car, along with personalised tread plates.
