DS to offer only electrified models from 2025

And there's a pure-electric production car coming to the Paris motor show

DS Automobiles – luxury arm of the PSA Group – has announced plans to only offer electrified models by 2025, as part of an electric push starting with the "imminent arrival" of the hybrid DS7 Crossback E-Tense.

This announcement shouldn't come as a surprise, given the brand's long-term commitment to Formula E, not to mention the constant stream of plug-in concept cars. The company has made a clear push to put itself on the cutting edge of electric vehicles, although we're yet to see that desire put into practice in its production cars.

"Starting in 2025, each new DS will be launched exclusively with electrified powertrains. Our ambition is very clear: for DS to be among the global leaders in electrified cars in its segment," said Yves Bonnefort, DS CEO.

The electric-powered kick will start with the DS7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4 (standard version below), which will offer 50km of battery-powered driving and have 225kW on tap.

After the 'imminent' release of the electrified DS7, the French luxury brand will launch its first fully-electric vehicle at the Paris motor show in October.

The wider Peugeot Citroen Group (PSA) recently spun its electric operations into a standalone division, as it chases the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance on the e-mobility front.

"The energy transition is an opportunity that our company has seized by launching an unprecedented technological offensive made possible by our multi-energy platforms," said Linda Jackson, Citroen CEO, when the division was announced last month.

"The challenge for this Business Unit, which benefits from an experience built up over several years within the Group, will be to provide the best vehicles at the best time to satisfy our customers and thereby ensure the best economic conditions for launching Groupe PSA’s electric vehicles into the market."
