2019 Kia Carnival pricing and specs

$42,490 starting price for revised MPV range

Kia has revealed local pricing and specifications for its updated Carnival people mover (link opens in new tab), which now kicks off at $42,490 before on-road costs.

Power comes from a choice of 3.3-litre V6 petrol or 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engines, both of which are hooked up to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The petrol produces 206kW of power and 336Nm of torque, while the diesel makes 147kW and 440Nm.

The range kicks off with the Carnival S petrol, priced from $42,490 before on-road costs. opting for the diesel adds $2500 to that figure, taking the sticker to $44,990.

That gets you 17-inch steel wheels, reverse parking sensors, a rear-view camera, automatic headlights, autonomous emergency braking and lane-departure warning as standard. A 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and four-speaker audio system are responsible for infotainment.

Manual climate control with two zones is standard, rather than the tri-zone climate control offered further up the range. You also miss out on satellite navigation, automatic windows, rear sunshade blinds and an illuminated vanity mirror.

The mid-spec Si brings the petrol price to $47,990 before on-roadsand bumps the diesel to $50,490. Along with the equipment listed above, the mid-spec model gets fancier 20-LED running lights and front fog-lights. Auto-folding mirrors have been added to the mix, as have solar glass for the front windows and rear privacy glass.

The Si also gets a 'premium' steering wheel and shift knob, and a larger 8.0-inch central touchscreen. That also brings a premium eight-speaker JBL audio system in place of the base four-speaker setup, along with Kia's 'clean air module' and auto-defog functionality.

Second-from-top spec SLi cars are priced from $52,490 before on-road costs in petrol guise, or $54,990 with the diesel engine. Atop the features mentioned earlier, it gets front parking sensors, an electrochromic rear mirror, push-button start and leather seats.

You also get an eight-way power-adjustable front driver's seat. Outside, the people mover gets a bar-style grille in place of the base unit, along with chrome window surrounds and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Finally, the Platinum is priced from $60,290 before on-road costs with the V6 petrol, or $62,790 with the diesel.

On top of the SLi's standard equipment, it gains LED headlights and high-beam assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, a surround-view camera, eight-way powered front passenger seat, and ventilated front seats. The steering wheel is a heated, wood-trimmed unit, and there's a 7.0-inch display in the instrument binnacle.

Setting the Platinum apart from its less-expensive brethren on the outside are 19-inch alloy wheels, a gloss-black grille and satin-painted bumper highlights.

Beyond the spec tweaks, Kia has thoroughly overhauled the Carnival's base structure. The body shell is 74 per cent more rigid than before, while there's fresh soundproofing material in the wheel arches and under the bonnet for better refinement. Kia also says the eight-speed auto helps smooth out the drive, as part of the Carnival's push upmarket.
