2019 Renault Clio spied

Next-gen hatchback to be tech showcase

The fifth-generation Renault Clio has been spied during development testing this week, sporting a heavy disguise ahead of an anticipated reveal at the Paris motor show in September.

Despite the swathes of wrap and black tape, we can see the next iteration of the French light hatch will evolve into a miniature version of the Megane, which is no bad thing.

It appears to have a lower and wider look, with Renault's newest corporate face sitting proudly at the front. It's harder to see the changes at the rear, but going by the company's latest models, the tail-lights will be joined through the middle by a large badge and connecting LED strips.

While the design may not see radical changes compared to the current model, it's believed the new Clio will offer a range of new-age driver assistance and powertrain technologies to compete with the best in the segment – namely the new Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta.

Semi-autonomous driving functions and active safety tech have been mooted, along with an all-electric powertrain option – though nothing has been confirmed yet.

Meanwhile, the interior is expected to get a design and trim overhaul, with the cockpit expected to be dominated by a massive central infotainment display.

The new Renault Clio is anticipated to be scheduled for reveal at the 2018 Paris motor show in September. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for our coverage.
