Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury officially unveiled

Sedan crossover is a 'timeless vehicle'

The Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury concept has been officially unveiled ahead of the 2018 Beijing motor show. And yes, the earlier leak proved to be correct: it is a crossover sedan.

"Our concept combines the DNA of an SUV with that of a saloon to produce an ultra-modern SUV of three-box design," Gorden Wagener, design chief of Mercedes-Benz, said at the car's launch.

"With sensuality and pure sophistication, we have created a timeless vehicle that underscores the position of Mercedes-Maybach as the ultimate luxury brand."

As you'd expect from the Maybach sub-brand, the Ultimate Luxury is not insubstantial. It measures 5260mm long, 2110mm wide, and 1764mm tall.

Providing echoes from an almost forgotten age, the Ultimate Luxury features a prominent ridge down the middle of the bonnet, roof and rear windscreen, splitting all three elements in half. The car rides on 24-inch turbine-style alloy wheels.

On the inside, the Ultimate Luxury features metallic trim, rose-gold front seats, and ebony wood, a material popular in traditional Chinese furniture.

While the dashboard features free-floating dual 12.3-inch displays, the console dividing the rear seats has a heated tray for the car's matching tea pot and cup set.

Power comes from four electric motors generating a total of 550kW. A flat underfloor 80kWh battery is said to be good for a range of 500 kilometres under the NEDC testing cycle, while top speed is limited to 250km/h.

The Ultimate Luxury supports CCS fast charging and wireless charging. Connected to the former, the sedan crossover can gain 100km of range in just five minutes.
