Infiniti confirms new electrified platform

New models on the way based on Q Inspiration concept

Infiniti has announced it is developing a new electrified vehicle platform based on the Q Inspiration concept revealed at this year's Detroit motor show.

Speaking at a preview event ahead of the Beijing motor show, Infiniti chairman and global president, Ronald Krueger, confirmed the news and reiterated the company's focus on the Chinese market.

"Infiniti is developing a new platform for electrified vehicles inspired by the Q Inspiration concept car (pictured), which shows the new design language for the age of autonomy and electrification," he said.

"We very much had China in mind when designing the Q Inspiration, which shows a very sporty, performance-oriented electric concept, with a much bigger interior space."

One of the vehicles to be based on this new platform will be a new sedan primarily for China – it will be built in the nation's capital, becoming one of five models the company plans to produce there over the next five years.

When it was revealed earlier this year the Q Inspiration concept was regarded by the premium brand as a preview of its next-generation designs.

Following the reveal of the slinky concept, Infiniti committed to bringing new electrified vehicles from 2021, including its first all-electric model.
