BMW iX3 teased ahead of Beijing debut

Electric crossover concept coming to China

BMW has provided a peek at the face of its upcoming all-electric Concept iX3 crossover, ahead of a full reveal at the Beijing motor show later this week.

All we have to work with is a 15-second clip posted on Twitter, but we know the iX3 will feature a new interpretation of the classic BMW kidney grille inspired by the i Vision Dynamics concept – which previews the upcoming i4.

In describing its planned rollout of electric vehicles, BMW will offer a range of 30e, 40e and 50e models with batteries ranging from 60kWh to 120kWh in capacity.

The iX3 and Mini Electric will be the first BMW Group vehicles to be mass-produced in electric form, followed by the i4 next decade.

Although it's just a concept at this point, don't be surprised if the car revealed this week is essentially production ready. Based on the teaser video, both the X3 and iX3 share the same basic bonnet line and nose shape.

Much like Mercedes-Benz and its EQ concepts, we'd expect the iX3 to take the basic car's design language and make it a bit 'techier'.

Something exciting is coming. Stay tuned for the Auto China Beijing 2018!#BMWBeijing @BMWi #BMWi pic.twitter.com/JxNX4KFIDc
