Honda Small RS Concept unveiled – UPDATE

Pumped up, downsized

Update (20/4): Honda Australia has confirmed the Small RS concept, and the Brio it's based on, won't be coming here.

The Honda Small RS Concept has been unveiled at the 2018 Jakarta motor show.

With its prominent sills, spoilers, wheel arch vents, bonnet scoop, rear diffuser, and blacked-out wheels and grille, the Small RS Concept looks, at a pinch, like a squashed Civic Type R.

In reality, the concept previews the second-generation Brio hatch, which is sold throughout south-east Asia and the Indian subcontinent. All the sporty accoutrements listed above will likely be reserved for a sporty-looking RS variant.

As before, the new Brio is likely to share its platform with the Amaze sedan, a new version of which was unveiled earlier this year at the New Delhi motor show.

Unlike the first-generation Brio and Amaze pair, the sedan and hatch don't look like they will share any exterior body panels this time around. The Amaze features more conservative styling with squarer details and a flat shoulder line, while the Brio will have a more youthful appearance.

According to Honda, the concept is targeted at "young-at-heart customers" who desire a "sporty driving feeling".

If the final production model and the concept are indeed closely related, the new Brio will again feature a steeply rising shoulder line.

In recent times, Honda's preview concepts have only undergone minor details changes on their way to production.
