2003-08 Mitsubishi Lancer, Evolution added to Takata recall

35,757 vehicles caught up in latest addition to airbag saga

Mitsubishi Australia has recalled the 2003-2008 Lancer and Lancer Evolution as part of the ongoing Takata airbag inflator scandal.

More than 35,000 vehicles are affected by the campaign, designed to rectify the like-for-like replacements fitted to those cars in 2015 as part of campaign 010093.

As the affected airbag inflators age, a combination of high temperature and humidity can make the propellant degrade. If the car is involved in an accident and the airbag is triggered, metal fragments could shoot out into the cabin, injuring or even killing occupants.

A total of 35,757 units are included in the recall – a VIN list is attached here.

Owners of the affected vehicles are encouraged to contact their Mitsubishi dealer or the company's head office using this linkor by calling 1800 931 811.
