The new Alpina XD4 has been quietly revealed on the company's website, becoming the first BMW SUV coupe offered in the tuning arm's line-up.

Based on the new-generation BMW X4, due locally in the third quarter of this year, the XD4 gets a similar treatment to the X3-based XD3, which includes an Alpina body kit, wheels and quad tailpipes, along with unique interior trims and Alpina-themed elements like a brand-specific digital instrument cluster interface.

Under the bonnet is the same 3.0-litre quad-turbo straight-six turbo-diesel as the XD3, which makes 285kW of power and 770Nm of torque, sent to BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Alpina claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 4.6 seconds, on its way to a stop speed of 268km/h.

Oddly, the company chose not to issue an official press kit for the new XD4, nor is there any word on pricing for the European market.

In the meantime, we've contacted the local distributor regarding Australian prospects for the first-ever XD4, though that decision will likely hinge on whether Alpina decides to bring the related XD3 here in the absence of an all-out M variant – at least for the time being.
