Toyota Australia 60 months at the top
March 2010 was yet another milestone for Toyota Australia as it marked the 60th consecutive month as the top-selling car company. The last five years steadily on top has come at a cost to local manufacturers Holden and Ford.
Toyota sold 20,306 vehicles in March compared to Holden's 11,795 and Ford's 8,092. Which means that Holden and Ford's sales together are still about 500 short of Toyota's March figure.
Despite the negative publicity surrounding Toyota in the United States, figures for March this year were a 22.3 per cent improvement over the same month last year.
So far this year Toyota has sold 51,000+ vehicles, 18,000 more vehicles than anyone else.
Some records for individual models include the Toyota Prado which had 2087 deliveries. Toyota's HiLux has set a record quarter result with 10,213 sales this year.
The Big T currently leads eight segments with the Toyota Yaris, Camry, Prado, LandCruiser 200 Series, Hilux 4x4, HiLux 4x2, HiAce van and HiAce bus.
Despite the overwhelming good figures Toyota Australia's senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner believes its more about delivering the right service and vehicle to the customer than being number one.
"We are constantly striving to improve everything we do - and we regard sales records as one measure of our success in meeting the requirements of our customers." Mr Buttner said.
According to Mr Buttner the great figures for March were partially helped by the improving economy and competitive retail offers.
"At this stage, we continue to believe the market will return above the one-million mark in 2011, although it may come tantalisingly close this year."
