Ford Focus RS500 sold out in 12 hours

The hyperactive limited edition Ford Focus RS500, announced only last week, has completely sold out -- just 12 hours after its release.

Powered by a 260kW/460Nm turbocharged 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine, the Focus RS500 three-door hatchback received "significantly more" orders than the car's limited build run of just 500 units.

Ford of Europe told Autocar it was caught off guard when leaked photos forced them to reveal the hot hatch two days ahead of schedule. The manufacturer said dealerships were swamped with calls and walk-in customers at locations all over Europe and the UK.

Ford has yet to announce pricing of the limited run model which is finished in a matte black colour with gloss black accents. The left-hand-drive only RS500 will be painted in factory gloss black paint before being shipped to a special 3M-owned facility in Frankfurt, Germany where a special film will be applied to the car to give a stealth black look.
