Ford Fiesta ST confirmed for Australia

It's official, the Ford Fiesta ST has been confirmed for Australia – though we won't be seeing it until the second quarter of 2019.
The Blue Oval delivered the news today at the launch of its Ford Performance sub-brand in Melbourne. Joining the German-built Fiesta ST in the local performance line-up will be the Ranger Raptor and updated Mustang – though there's no word on whether we'll get the Ford Performance versions of the 'Stang like the GT350R.
Power in the new-generation Fiesta ST comes from a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost turbo petrol, making 147kW of power and 290Nm of torque – up 13kW and 50Nm over the previous four-cylinder model.
Drive is sent exclusively to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, with 0-100km/h taking a claimed 6.7 seconds.
"There is definitely a strong appetite and passion for the Fiesta ST in our line-up, and can see the affinity and esteem that Australians have with driving enjoyment of the existing model," said Graeme Whickman, Ford Australia's CEO.
"Fiesta ST shows the depth of enthusiast models that we're bringing to Australia, with everything from this hot hatch through to the Ranger Raptor."
Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but expect the new-generation Fiesta ST to go toe-to-toe with the DSG-only Volkswagen Polo GTI – which will start at $30,990 before on-road costs when it arrives in August.
