Mercedes-Maybach concept teased ahead of Beijing

Design study could preview new-generation GLS flagship

Mercedes-Benz has published a teaser for a luxurious new concept car headed to the Beijing motor show later this month.

Posted to the company's global Facebook page, the 22-second clip captioned "luxury at its finest" shows the interior of a Maybach-branded car with futuristic cabin styling elements.

Catering to the tastes of the Chinese market, there's lashings of chrome and rose gold throughout the cockpit, though it's not entirely clear what form this vehicle will take.

Some reports from overseas suggest the large centre console between the front seats hints that this concept could be an SUV. If this is the case, we could be looking at a preview of the rumoured Mercedes-Maybach version of the next-generation GLS.

According to the rumour mill over the last few months, Mercedes will offer the upcoming new-gen GLS is flagship Maybach trim – like the current S-Class – to compete with the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Range Rover.

The concept version of this variant was expected to be shown in concept form in Beijing this month and then in production form at the Los Angeles motor show in November – at this stage, that timeline is syncing up nicely.
