Audi R8 V10 wins 2010 World Performance Car

You’d have to be a brave individual to disagree with the recent findings of the World Car Awards jurors who voted the Audi R8 V10 as the 2010 World Performance Car of the Year.

It seems the Audi R8 is somewhat of a favourite when it comes to the World Car of the Year Awards as the 4.2-litre V8 model won the same award in 2008.

The collective panel said that: “In the opinion of many on the World Car Awards jury, Audi has at long last satisfied our hunger for a street car that lives up to the excitement of the original Le mans series-dominating R8 LMP1 race car".

The 5.2-litre V10 was developed in partnership with the company’s performance division quattro GmbH, and develops 386kW (525PS) and can rocket from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

Top speed is a very quick 315km/h (196mph) and features quattro permanent all-wheel drive, aluminium body and all-LED lights.

CarAdvice has not yet tested the standard R8 V10, but has speed tested the ABT Tuned 4.2-litre V8 R8, which is substantially quicker than the stock V10 R8 variant, with a top speed of over 325km/h (we clocked 322km/h).

We look forward to road testing the R8 V10 from ABT in Germany later this year, on the autobahn and through the Allgau Mountains in Bavaria.
