2019 Toyota Prius leaked

Japanese magazine shows facelifted hybrid

The facelifted Toyota Prius has surfaced in the Japan's Best Car magazine this week, previewing an upcoming mid-life refresh for the Japanese hybrid.

It's worth remembering, these could just be a set of renders commissioned by the popular Japanese magazine, but past form on the Toyota Supra would suggest they're accurate.

Pictured in an eye-catching lavender-purple, the new Prius sports new front- and rear-end treatments that will still polarise, but are more in line with the company's new design language – first seen on the new Corolla hatchback.

Up front there's new upright LED daytime-running lights flanking a revised lower intake, along with slimmer headlights that appear to have full-LED internals and an L-shaped border like the Corolla.

At the back, the tail-lights have been overhauled, mirroring the L-shaped design of the headlights rather than the upright units of the current model. There's almost a hint of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross about it – whether that's a positive or negative is up to you.

The alloy wheels in these images are the same as the rims used in the current i-Tech variant, though that could change when the new Prius is officially revealed.

We can't determine any specifications changes from the Japanese magazine, so we'll have to wait and see for the official announcement.

Other upgrades will likely include the company's latest driver assistance technologies. Stay tuned to CarAdvice for all the latest updates over the coming months.
