Camaro ZL1 headed Down Under: Trademark, facelift open door for 485kW coupe locally

Ladies and gents, Chevrolet's most ballistic Camaro is likely to hit Australian shores by the end of this year, if a recent facelift and trademark registration are a guide.
The right-hand drive Camaro ZL1 will pack a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine producing 485kW of power (650hp) and 881Nm of torque, with a 0-60mph (97km/h) time of just 3.5 seconds.
It has a top speed of 306km/h, and recently managed a Nurburgring lap time of 7:16:04 in LE trim.
Premoso Pty Ltd, parent company of HSV, has confirmed the Camaro SS will be converted locally to right-hand drive at its Melbourne headquarters.
While Premoso is yet to confirm the ZL1 for Australia, a recent 2019 model year update and a trademark registration has virtually sealed the deal.
Holden's history of registering trademarks of upcoming models is strong: names like Silverado, SportsCat, Acadia, GTSR-W1 and GTSR were registered before making it into showrooms.
If it does land in Australia later this year, the car is likely to carry a price tag well north of $100,000 before on-road costs. Priced at US$62,500 ($80,100) the ZL1 carries a US$19,500 ($25,200) premium over the 2SS in the USA.
The right-hand drive converted Camaro is expected to carry a price tag of $90,000 when it goes on sale in July which, if the maths translates from North American, would make the Camaro ZL1 a $120,000 proposition.
Chevrolet announced a 2019 update to the Camaro today, giving the Mustang rival a minor facelift and the introduction of a 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Ford.
While the ZL1 already has a 10-speed automatic, the new gearbox for non-ZL1 models has a different load capacity.
