2019 Lexus ES front end leaked

LS-inspired looks for new Avalon-based sedan

The front-end design of the next-generation Lexus ES has been leaked ahead of the car's expected debut later this month.

A photo said to be of the new car's front fascia has been published by Al Muraba.

This leak, reportedly from China, looks pretty much on the money, as it not only features a design heavily influenced by the latest LS sedan, but also matches up with spy photos we published in August last year.

Under the skin, the ES is likely to once again share much with the Toyota Avalon, including its Toyota New Global Architecture, which should ensure the new model is lighter and has improved handling.

The latest Avalon goes on sale in the US around the middle of the year, and will be a 3.5-litre V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic or a hybrid drivetrain featuring a 2.5-litre four-cylinder motor.

Last year, Lexus sold just 260 ES sedans in Australia. Well behind its stablemate the IS (1524), and miles behind the segment-leading Mercedes-Benz C-Class (8549).

Despite that, the ES is a vital model in the Lexus range. The car's 2017 US sales total of 51,398 accounts for around 17 per cent of all Lexus models sold in the land of the free.

If reports are correct, the new ES will do double duty as not only a regeneration of itself, but as a replacement, of sorts, for the GS sedan.
