2007/08 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra join Takata recall

72 vehicles caught up in latest Takata recall

Overseas Vehicle Sales has recalled the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, adding them to the list of vehicles included in the Takata airbag inflator drama.

According to the company, a combination of high temperatures and humidity can make the airbag propellant degrade over time. If the airbag is deployed in an accident, the metal inflator housing could explode or rupture.

If this happens, metal fragments can shoot through the airbag cushion, putting occupants at risk of serious injury or death.

A total of 72 vehicles is caught up in the recall – a VIN list is attached here.

Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a phone call to confirm their address, before they're sent a letter advising of the recall. They'll be sent to the American Vehicle Sales website to arrange a new airbag, free of charge.

Concerned owners can call 03 9765 1300 for more information.
