McLaren BP23 ‘Speed Form’ handed to owners
Sculpture offers a peek at BP23
McLaren doesn't have a finished car yet – or if it does, it isn't willing to show us – but owners of the BP23 have been handed a 'Speed Form' sculpture to keep their idle hands busy while they wait for the hybrid hypercar.
Described as a "money can't buy" piece of sculpture, each 'Speed Form' measures 400mm x 205mm x 80mm and weighs a hefty 3.6kg. Machined using five-axis CNC cutting technology, the unit is hand assembled and finished.
The company says the sculpture takes 100 hours to create, 30 hours of which is dedicated to hand polishing. Each of the 106 units is numbered to match the owner's car, and us mere mortals without the money to buy a BP23 won't be able to get our hands on one at the Woking gift shop.
Along with a nod to its three-seat layout, the Speed Form contains a few hints to the upcoming petrol-electric supercar's bodywork. The orange streak running down the middle of the sculpture could, to our eyes, offer a look at the roofline, while its base suggests we might be seeing something curvier from McLaren.
We can be almost 100 per cent certain it won't look like the Senna, with all its slashes, creases and air intakes.
Just 106 BP23s (the production name still hasn't been confirmed) will be built as homage to the McLaren F1. Power will come from a petrol-electric hybrid setup, good for a top speed north of 390km/h.
Oh, and all 106 are already sold. Put that chequebook away!
